When we’re young, it’s easy to believe our friendships will last forever. Those we consider “ride or die” feel like permanent fixtures in our lives. If someone told you back then that you wouldn’t be friends with a certain person years later, you’d probably laugh it off.
In this week’s CML episode, Djen and Shilz unapologetically discuss the topic of “Quitting Friendships That No Longer Serve You.” They delve into the emotional complexities of recognising when a friendship has run its course or is one sided.
As life unfolds, friendships naturally change. People move, interests evolve, and paths diverge. It can be both disappointing and heartbreaking when a valued friendship ends, especially when the change feels unexpected. These moments of loss often catch us off guard, leaving us wondering what went wrong.
While friendships are vital to our sense of community and well-being, how often do we pause to reflect on whether all our relationships are truly healthy and fulfilling? Are some friendships held together solely by history, even though they no longer bring joy or balance into our lives?
Letting go of a friendship is rarely easy, but sometimes it’s necessary for personal growth. Not every connection is meant to last forever—and that’s okay. Recognising when it’s time to move on allows us to create space for healthier, more meaningful relationships that align with who we are becoming.
How to Consciously End a Friendship:
Reflect Before Acting: Take time to evaluate the relationship and ensure you’re making a thoughtful decision.
Have an Honest Conversation: Approach the person with kindness and clearly express your feelings without blaming.
Set Boundaries: If a direct conversation isn’t possible, gradually reduce contact and establish healthy limits.
Focus on Closure: Avoid leaving things unresolved by being respectful and direct about why you’re stepping back.
Move Forward with Positivity: Appreciate the good times you shared and allow yourself to embrace new connections.
Remember, you deserve to be in friendships that make you feel good about yourself 😊
