In an age where digital connections lead to real-world meetings, the need for safety in dating has never been more critical. The internet has transformed many aspects of our lives, including how we meet and interact with potential partners. The digital dating boom has come with a host of risks which include catfishing, deceptive behaviors, and even dangerous encounters. Shilz and Djenys have done a pretty good job in educating us this week on how the women’s safety groups come into play. Originally formed as a reaction to these online dating risks, these groups serve as a collective safety net, allowing women to share experiences and vital information about individuals who may pose a risk.
Doing a CRB or Background check is usually reserved for jobs but in the world and age we are living in , it appears these are very much needed when it comes to dating! In the digital dating scene they can be as simple as checking social media profiles, googling names, or even using paid services to ensure the person you’re meeting is who they claim to be. The goal isn’t to invade privacy but to protect oneself from potential harm.
The saying “Safety in Numbers” really has a place in this conversation as there’s undeniable strength in community. Safety groups provide a platform for sharing information that might otherwise go unnoticed. Whether it’s warning others about a known manipulator or sharing patterns of behavior that are red flags, these groups empower women to make informed decisions about who they choose to let into their lives.
While these platforms are invaluable, they also come with a caveat: not every claim is true. Emotional manipulation can skew perceptions and information. It’s crucial to verify facts and approach every situation with a balanced view.
If I can take you back to Prt1 of this episode Shilz recounted a story that highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread and the lasting impact it can have on individuals involved. However , in this episode she shared one particularly chilling story from TikTok of a woman whose seemingly perfect date turned dangerous when she discovered the man’s intentions were not as they seemed. This story, among others, serves as a stark reminder that while the internet brings us closer, it also requires us to be vigilant and cautious.
5 Ways to Keep Safe in Modern Dating:
Meet in Public Places: Always choose well-lit, populated locations for initial meetings.
Inform Friends or Family: Let someone know where you’re going and who you’re meeting.
Use Safety Apps: Consider using apps that allow you to share your location with trusted contacts.
Listen to Your Instincts: If something feels off, trust your gut and remove yourself from the situation.
Keep Personal Info Private: Be cautious about how much personal information you share until you trust the other person.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and the lesson I will be taking away and sharing with my sisters and friends is “the world isn’t what it used to be”. It’s essential to be vigilant, prepared, and protected.
As you read this blog , please share this message, not just for awareness but as a tool to safeguard the hearts and lives of those venturing into the dating world. I’ll end with this question… Have you ever used a safety group or background check in your dating life? If so , what was the outcome?… I’m just curious!

Greetings Team,
It is better not to dig behind the scenes in a relationship (call it background checks), Go with what you see
